YASCU is a zero installation screen capture utility and jpeg viewer for Microsoft Windows , approximately 100KB in size. The word Yascu was coined as an acronym for Yet Another Screen Capture Utility, alluding to the plethora of utilities that exists on the internet within the screen capture genre. It was released to the general public in the form of freeware on Aug 26, 2009 on CNET's Download.com , and on Tucows.com in September 2009.
Yascu is compatible with Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7, and Windows Server 2003 and higher, and is described as an easy to use crossover screenshot utility designed as a multi-purpose business tool for everyone. The emphasis of the overall design is to balance size, speed, and simplicity, allowing screenshots to be captured, presented, and illustrated on by doodling . It also supports the use of a wireless presenter remote and tablet-based mouse gestures to navigate image content. To maintain its tiny footprint, image editing is accomplished by transferring screenshots to Windows Paint or other external application. It also displays application help as integrated images from the internet, thereby removing the need for dependency on a local windows help file , or having to launch a web browser . The Pro version allows the use of a hotkey to transfer images to the Snagit Editor for additional editing and applying of annotations .
